So I tried to write this and post on FB yesterday but I wrote in the FB field and right literally when I was done, for some reason FB like reloaded or whatever and all was lost lol….anyone who wants a nod on a new social media platform, I got the inside scoop for that wink wink lol
Okay, NEW HEAD COACH talk…I don’t have any inside information and I don’t do gossip (especially media gossip) but I do have my own input, so that’s what this is. I don’t think any of us can guess or predict who John Schneider is going to choose so your guess is as good as mine but given what I THINK I know, I’d like it to be Raheem Morris.
I’ll support this for a lot of reasons but the biggest is that we steal an asset from our pesky divisional rivals, the Rams, and he would have studied not just us, so he’d be more prepared to step right into the job and probably know what to change and what not to change HERE, but also, he would have studied how to defeat the 49ers and Cards. By the way, don’t snuff off the Cards, they’ve got a ton of a draft capital in this draft and are risers in this divisions with one year behind them in coaching and Kyler Murray actually looking decent when he came back, so we’re going to need a guy at our top who just “gets” this Division as a priority.
Then of course he can bring in what he knows about McVay and the Rams organization from a head coach’s executive perspective with all of his previous coaching experience in the NFL. He’s also worked under Mike Shanahan and Dan Quinn, and the Grudens, where he won a Super Bowl with Jon Gruden with that INSANE defense they had in Tampa Bay in 2002! So he would just “get” our competition and be able to do more in coaching up our young guys then having to constantly digest the “other guys” as much as it seems the other candidates might need to. I just like a guy who’s had all these experiences rather than some young gun who’s going to have to go through many years of learning the insides of the rest of the division and conference before he can worry about his own team.
His Head Coaching stints included Tampa Bay from 2009-2011 after being their DBs coach for 2 years, but his record was pretty horrible at about .350% wins or something like that, but even Pete Carroll’s first coaching stints in the NFL were pretty bad at first as well, AND Tampa Bay went through like a 15 year period with MULTIPLE head coaches and were pretty horrible before Arians/Boyles and TB12 got there In 2020 and won a SB, so not sure we can really put all that on Morris, as it seemed to be more of an ownership issue when teams are that bad for that long (which I hope won’t be a sustained problem for us now going forward sigh).
I think it might just be his time at this stage in his life and career. The guy must have had a lot of hard knocks over the years, and he did coach the Defense when the Rams won their SB a couple of years ago against Cincy, so he’s a guy who has had a lot of “ups and downs” in this league…seems to me that it’s experience like that that will propel our team forward even with all the frustrations that ARE GOING TO HAPPEN in the wake of PC getting fired. AND he’s not just got Defense creds on his resume, as he was the, it’s a mouthful but, “Asst. HC/WR Coach/Passing Game Coord.” under Dan Quinn in Atlanta with Matt Ryan at QB when they went to their SB and yeah, they did lose that game, but from my perspective they lost that game on a complete collapse of the Defense, but that’s arguable.
Drafting will be interesting and while we’ve got two winnable QBs now, who knows what any new coach would do. RM won that first TB Super Bowl with friggin Brad Johnson as QB and I know times have changed by quite a bit, but he’ll probably stick with defense as a priority and POSSIBLY pick a late round QB that virtually no one knows about just because he happens to be the best player on the board at the time…who knows? Also, and this is just my own personal hope, but whoever he brings in at OC, I seriously hope we finally return to a ball control offense and finally focus on running the ball. So, he could be more selective about specific players in the draft he’d like to create that aspect, who knows.
And I’ll say this about DK…it’s the same ol’ line with me, but this season made it very public that the NFL, and especially in the NFC, that everyone who scouts us KNOWS that if they can just trigger up DK on the offense that it will throw off the whole offensive machine and its clock, which then affects our defense as well if we can’t sustain drives on offense. He is and has been without question the Achilles of this team, so, my one hope in PC getting fired is that someone from rest of the conference, like Morris, will expose this FACT to not just DK himself directly, but if need be, to all of you in the fan base who still seem to have a dreamy affection for that clown….regardless of who comes in to coach us, DK is GOING TO finally get a stern talking to, and if it doesn’t work then he can take his sloppy narcissistic punk a$$ to the Jets.
Bottom line is that Raheem Morris has been everywhere, and has been at the bottom AND at the top in this league, so he’s just my pick as our next Head Coach.
He’s also getting looks from lots of other teams in need a HC, so I’m not sure where he might choose if he has multiple offers, still, it would be hard for him to not want to come here, I’m thinking, because he’s already got Bobby Wagner’s nod and around these circles that’s some street cred you really can’t earn without REALLY earning it. This alone could calm some of the eventual storms that ARE coming just enough to actually put a winning coaching staff together, AND be able to keep and sign Free Agents in the off season to compete within the Division in 2024.
Opinions, thoughts, ideas? Go ahead crush me, this is your chance, because I’m still quite a bit shruggy around this whole thing anyway. Lol
